I am doing almost the exact same thing to a Columbia 40. We attempted to recored and gave up and are completely rebuilding the decks. This past week she looked more strange than I could have imagined. A hull, a cabin top, and no decks. just bare bulkheads to look at. just had to comiserate as I coul...

hull/deck joint - 5200 or epoxy???

Well I've been away for a long time(got rid of the original project in exchange for an even bigger one - oh dear....) and am back and in need of assistance. photos to come. We are replacing the decks on a C-40. See pg. 89 in Chapman for the reason why. You'll be glad you did. It's a huge job, but we...

low temp epoxy

Hey all - just thought I would pass on something that I found extremely helpful. I have found an epoxy product from Progressive Epoxy in New Hampshire called LTC 38(Low Temperature Cure 38). It is great stuff and really does cure in colder conditions. I build surfboards, as well as work on my 1965 C...

Okay - so you probably are all set with your "sof-pak" at this point but I figured I'd just chime in to make conversation. I too got frustrated with my little 5" RO sander. I have a Makita 8" VS sander/polisher that I bought for a bottom sanding project on another boat(I should h...

Rather than just drilling a hole willy nilly I'd be more excited to find the original spot. I imagine that the original hole is in the best locale for the drain. But that said how will I know which spot to drill and install said drain? The bilge is very dry right now so I think I am safe, but..........

GARBOARD DRAIN????

Okay - so ............... My boat has a Garboard Drain that has been glassed over by some fool. Or genius - but the way I figure, it was there for a reason, ie. the guy was foolish. Any thoughts from the peanut gallery on what I should do?? Find the spot of the original plug, unearth it and re-insta...

Okay okay so I'm convinced, to the barn they go. The extra nudge was just what i needed. My wife will be suspect of this plan at best. Per your earlier post - If I don't finish the damn entryway very soon I won't have the option of the couch. I'll most likely be banished to the boat with a candle fo...

Thanks Figment.
The pup tent idea was sort of what I had in mind. There is a barn that I could store them in about 10 miles away, but I don't quite know how to get them there. It's not like I can throw a 40' mast on top of the thule rack.
Guess the tent will have to do.

thanks again

Okay, so lets get back to masts, eh? (no I'm not canadian) Well I finally got all the hardware off both spars and their respective booms. I was also able to sand all the varnish off pretty easily. They now sit awaiting their regluing and varnish. I am inclined to put the regluing off till spring as,...

Thanks for the info. I live in Fayette(Kents Hill) but work in Wiscasset and sail mostly in the Three Rivers/Muscongus region. I just finished bringing a Pearson 365 back to life for a cousin and he sold it a year after the job was finished. Go figure. I traded labor for use of the boat - boy did he...

Oh no - you guys definitely have not heard the last about this boat. It won't be long before I'm banned from the forum for monopolizing too much forum space. Until then.......

ps - how do I post a photo to the forum to assist folks in answering questions?

penthink passes the buck

Well I have purchased Penthinks headache and she now sits comfortably in my driveway 70 miles farther inland. Methinks she's nervous to have moved that far from salt water. Her new name(I know, I know - changing the name superstition - but the wife wouldn't stand for the old name) is Argo Navis, and...
