5200 Lava

Thanks, after working on other small projects I put my 6'5" frame in there and decided that repair was possible and leaving both thru hulls in was safe. They aren't the nicest looking chunks of bronze but this isn't my neighbors Pacific Seacraft. On to rigging and $par$.

5200 Lava flow removal

I have two cockpit drains that go to older tapered sea cocks that seize up occasionally but are in fair condition. Right now I am cleaning and lubricating these beasts and wondering if I can get rid of them with what appears to be a lava flow of 5200 around each one. What chemical solvent is safe or...

Sorry if I came off too critical of all your efforts. I just seem to move from one water project to the next. This was my latest finished effort of wood and fiberglass and now I am new deep in the Triton and having a good time. Cheers, Kemp http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/Kempmd/Kayakbaptism00...

Floating Triton project

Up on stands and working on the mast, rigging, and deck compression I couldn't help but think of what she will sail like this spring. Sorry if I am out of line but it's all about the finish line where you throw off the deck lines. Hopefully this picture goes through. http://www.tritonclass.org/mir/T...

When the local rigger looked at the stays and turnbuckles he believed that they were original and since I had no paperwork from past maintenance logs to show otherwise we are definitely replacing it. I love to sail but I love to sail without worry too. As for the US Steel bracing of the beam, yes it...

Thanks for the insights. As to the type of glass, I have only used the light weights involved in wood kayak design so, 22oz biax and of course applied at different intervals because of the heat. Believe me, I have been kicked by epoxy through latex gloves before. As for the main beam, it has a reinf...

Starting on Triton #101 from the top

#101 has been in my custody for three years and now its time to make some upgrades. The standing rigging is original with a compressed deck under the step. As soon as I pull the mast I have to repair the compression damage so I will cut the top off and replace with solid fiberglass but how big an ar...

I just had this boat surveyed and engine mounts didn't come up. I am going to go with gently trying to move it and if she does'nt move, than tighten her down with new bolts and fix in the fall haul out. Thanks for the response Tim. This is a great resource for me and my old Triton. Here is a picture...

Atomic 4 engine mounts

This spring working on Triton #101 (1961) I couldn't figure out why the prop shaft was all the way back to the rudder. Working in the engine room after I put it in I found that the right front engine mount bolt was loose. After further inspection, the left side bolt was gone, so the engine has slowl...

Water Tank

Thanks for the info. This is a family boat that has been used for racing in Annapolis for some time with little attention to cruising. I have my hands full but she sails beautifully. Next is the new head and holding tank so I can take out my son and the Sea Scouts for long cruises on the Chesapeake ...

Triton Water tank

What do I have to do to restore the original water tank in my Triton hull #101? I am slowly restoring it and the water tank is number one before I go to work on the holding tank directly behind it as you did. I have been told that the water tank hasn't been used in 12 years or more.
