Interdeck: Re-tape betweet coats?
Interdeck: Re-tape betweet coats?
Can anyone with Interdeck experience suggest if it's better to pull the tape between coats and re-tape, or if it'll pull clean after the second coat goes on.
I'm using fine-line tape for the edges and blue tape over it to widen the masked area.
Thanks!

Well, I haven't used Interdeck with Fine Line tape, but I've had no problem pulling up both #225 silver tape and #233 green tape after two coats.
Just don't leave the tape on any longer than you have to, assuming you're outdoors. Do 2 coats in 2 days, and try and pull the tape off the second day.
Good luck!

I didn't use Interdeck, but when I did my non-skid (two coats) I simply double-masked it. After applying the first coat I stripped off the top layer of tape, then took the second layer off after the second coat.
It's a bit of extra work, but I used a Duradeck-type coating, and if you let it dry at all it tears unevenly on the tape line. I ended up with a very smooth edge.

Hey Peter - the double masking tape is a great idea, I'll have to remember that one.
Here's a before and, not "after" since she's a ways from being done, a "current" photo of the boat.
Standard West Coast Triton. The original gelcoat was red but in poor condition. Now she's back to her original color with her new paint job.
