rewiring/ cable size

Post by msrcal36 »

I ran 1/0 cable from house battery bank to single on/off switch (Blue Seas 9001e) at the switch panel. (I have a separate on/off (BS 9001e) for the engine starting battery).
1. Do I need to run the same size negative cable from the distribution bus bar (BS#2302) to the boat's ground (BS # 2104)? It is a run of about 8 feet.
2. What about the positive cable size from house on/off switch to distribution switches...wire run is about 4 inches? 4 guage or 8 guage OK?

If you are referring to the ground cable that connects you distribution buss to the battery negatives, it should be at least as large as the positive run.

The cable size for the run from the switch to the panel will be dictated by the maximum amout of current the panel will draw. If there is nothing else attached to the on/off switch besides the panel, the wire should be the same size as the battery run cable so it can be protected by the battery fuse.
