Yes I agree a very nice looking boat. Proably the cost of shipping with out a
trailer to Canada would put it beyond my range.

Bruce-

Good luck. If I thought I could afford transport, storage and the refit I would be bidding against you. Looks like jwrenhouse has done most of the major structural renovation.

I was following your progress, Bruce - things really went crazy there in the last few minutes! Better luck next time. Would you all still consider that boat a good deal at that price?

For the right person, sure, it's a great deal. But it's easy to underestimate the time and expense it would take to get this boat in sailing condition - and that's after moving her to a place closer to home.

Knowing what I know now, I'd jump at the chance if I hadn't just 'finished' my long renovation project (in this case, 'finished' means the boat got wet this year). But as I oohed and ahhed over the Swiftsure, my 13-year-old daughter corrected pointed out that I'd have to make the boat weathertight very quickly, as I'd need a new place to live if I bought it. :-)

I just hope whoever got the last bid in during the final seconds will be able to make that boat seaworthy again. She'll turn heads.

$5100 is a fair enough deal for that boat in her current condition, but the amount of work required to finish her off nicely is still significant--as the amount of expensive gear and systems still required. 33' is a lot of boat to outfit, and all the expensive stuff is still ahead--engine, systems, and outfitting.

Still, I think that's a very fair entry price given the condition of the boat and with the limited list of included equipment. Let's hope the person who won the auction knows what they are getting into, and can follow through successfully!

Bruce, sorry you didn't get her. Keep up the search!

Hello All

Well, I took a stab. Yes I realizied the amount of work and money
this project would take as it would have been my second project and you learn much from the first the hard way:) but it would have been a grand boat.

Thank You all for your encourgement.

If you know of any boats in the maine, canadian martimies area
in the $2000 range that need some TLC. Please let me know.
I am looking in the 28-32 foot Range.

Regards

Bruce

I think the winning bidder overpaid.

There was a Swiftsure in Good Old Boat classifieds for a few months. I think the price was something like $12K, and that boat had an interior, an engine, sails, etc.

That's not always a good thing, depending on condition! If you have to basically start over anyway, then there's no bargain in having the old stuff hanging around.

Value all depends on one's own interpretation of condition and their personal expectations and vision for the boat. I'd rather pay 5K for a good hull and deck, without all the old garbage that needed to be removed first, than twice as much for a boat that I'd end up gutting anyway. Of course, I look at every boat as a gut job, so I realize that this doesn't apply to everyone. I wouldn't have paid 5K for the Swiftsure either, but that's only because of my unrealistic expectations and the fact that I want to start from scratch myself.

5K may be a little high, but isn't too bad for a person wanting a boat that's structurally sound, painted (though it will probably need paint again before the whole project is complete), and ready for the finishing touches (if indeed that's the case with this Swiftsure...photos can be very deceiving, of course!).
