Lately I find myself with a taste for a 70's vintage Tartan 41.
The wraparound plastic coaming doesn't really light my fire, but the rest of the boat seems pretty sweet.

Anybody love 'em or hate 'em?

Actually, I like those a lot. Something about that bulging 70s tumblehome, flush-ish deck, and tiny, pointy transom--a look that has become classic in its own right. Good choice.

Really nice boats - I started a thread on them on sailing Anarchy which just got brought to the top a few days ago.

I suppose I should have told a few people on here that I had a lead on one with a blown motor for 15k. It had done the Newport to Bermuda a couple of years earlier so I couldn't have been in terrible condition. I believe in the end he ended up donating it.

Anyway, good luck - they are a cool boat. There is one on the lake that is in very good shape, and she always makes me drool a bit.

Love, fer sher. Gives me the same forlorn cruise-fast-now yearning as similar vintage+size Swans and Hinckleys, but at a price that's within this galaxy. Just need every number except the Mega Ball.

I'll sorta pass on the extended stern version, though (T44). Looks weird.

Heres one for sale. Its very close to where I live. Its at Sebasco, near that "wedding cake" house. edit - after posting this, I just noticed its in the one of the photographs.

There was a T41 in the race fleet last weekend. Up close it needs a bunch of tlc, but man there's no denying the sex appeal of those hips! Cleaned up and dressed up she'd be a true stunner.

Agreed, that funky coaming makes it look like it is missing a windshield but the hull is sweet and the under body says she is capable of some speed.

There is one here in Norwalk CT that has been sitting in boat yard for at least 5 years. I used to know the owner. (became an extreme alchoholic and disappeared). I assume it's now owned by the yard but I'm not sure. It's bright red. One of the shallower draft models.

Strange how things work. Last week a stunning Rhodes 41 - wood - docked at the Club for two days, outbound from Toronto.

Tonight, a T-44 was tied off at the guest dock. Strong-bilged and wide at the hip, there was some discussion among the old boat aficionados as to whether she was actually beautiful, or merely striking.

And, sorry Rachel, I didn't get pictures of either boat . . .
