Trailering wide load sailboats

Post by Tony »

Howdy all,
I found this pic on the net today, and thought it was a pretty good idea to trailer boats over 8' wide that would otherwise be good trailerables. I've never seen something like this in the states, have you?

How interesting! I've never seen anything like that. Boy, that just looks weird, though it's an interesting solution.

No one around here seems to worry too much about towing J/24s (which is what is in the picture)--and lots of other, larger, beamier boats--on private, non-commercial trailers despite the supposed 8'-6" width limit on the roads.

I passed one of those just yesterday. My first thought was "well, I guess it's a lot easier to climb up into the boat to rig the hoist". The wide load issue didn't even occur to me. It's the first I've seen of a jboat, but back in my beach cat days I saw a lot of angled load trailering.
