Really old classic plastic

Over the past few months I have come across many boats which I had never seen before or even heard of. Most of these old fiberglass classics were made before about 1965 and in small numbers.
Since this was a time when fiberglass was still "new", there seems to be a wider variation in techniques and style than one finds today. To my way of thinking, this makes these early boats somehow more interesting.
Is anyone aware of any publication that has done a survey of these early sailboats, their builders and how the techniques and methods evolved into the common production techniques of the late 1960s?
