A little something for all of us Mount Gay fans....

A Haitian friend of mine keeps telling me to try Barbencourt rum. Apparently, this stuff is the Dom Perignon of rums.

Anyone here ever tried it?

Mount Gay rebuttal.

As a Barbadian (Bajan in the vernacular) I take umbrage at anyone suggesting Mount Gay rum is anything less than a Dom Perignon of rums. Admittedly, the export version is the young rum (5 year old) but should anyone visit the island and cadge a sip of 21 year old, nectar, my friends, sheer velvet nectar!

Cheers,
Ian

Hmmm. Perhaps a bottle of the "aged nectar" might magically appear up here in Maine, shipped lovingly from Florida, so that we Maineiac rum snobs could weigh in with an unbiased judgement?

*wink* hehe.

I see also that they now market an "Extra Old" Mt. Gay rum. Has anyone tried it? Is it perhaps closer to the wonderful-sounding 21 year-old version?

Not that I can find any fault with the "plain ole" Mt. Gay. I love the stuff; it is, after all, one of the reasons--so empirically stated by Nathan--that Glissando may be slower than Dasein! haha

A visit to Barbados, and the Mt. Gay distillery, is certainly on my list--hopefully in Glissando. I feel it would be worth the upwind journey to get there, myself.

That Haitian friend gifted a bottle of 8 year old Barbancourt to our party yesterday. I dunno about "the Dom Perignon of rum", but man it was REALLY good.

Now I have an excuse to go out and buy some of that "extra old" Mt. Gay for comparison!!
