he's making me buy a new boat with a diesel... Bad Tim. I can't bear the thought of looking like I only own "toys" (Very, VERY big grin).

I had made a very, very lowball offer on another Cape Dory back in July. The owner declined at the time but apparently a divorce and a boat still in a slip in a state he doesn't live in has greased the wheels and he has accepted our offer pending survey.

We're still working on the logistics of survey, haulouts, transportation, etc. We were very spoiled with our last boat since we bought it from the manager of a boatyard and they hauled, washed and dropped the rig for free on a Saturday. The surveyor I talked to about that boat said to just buy her (he'd already seen her) and we'd be happy. We have loved our SS23, but the lack of anything close to standing headroom has become a problem.

I just hope I don't cuss the diesel as much as I cuss our outboards!

How often does that happen?

I am desperately trying not to consider her my boat until the survey. The second she gets the surveyor's blessing, I have lots of photos to share.

We dragged our feet too long on the same type of CD this summer and blew a great deal and have been regretting it since.

The survey is next Thursday. Seems like forever -- in the meantime, tomorrow is to be a beautiful day with sun and 70's. We're going to work until lunch and then go sail on one of the boats we already own.

Can you have too many boats? My husband is thinking, yes.

Wow Bly! And Miranda is barely wet. I hope she doesn't get too jealous! At least you're buying a relative (another CD)... :)

Miss Miranda is snuggled up against the side of the cottage in Marblehead for the winter. I rebuilt her so I would have a boat to sail when we went up to stay with my husband's family in the fall each year. She is simple to rig (we dropped the rig at the mooring), easy to launch and delightful to sail.

We originally purchased our Sea Sprite to take up to MA. Having always sailed on Cape Cod and Long Island Sound, I poo-pooed lake sailing and declared I would rather sail every day for a month up there and not at all in Georgia. Wrong!

Lake Hartwell is huge and has very few boats on it (okay, there are lots of boats that never leave their slips). The problem is that its an hour drive. Once I'm up there, I don't want to come home. The 4'6" of headroom is a little snug down below. Amazingly our 23' Sea Sprite is one of the smallest (although by far the prettiest...) boats in our marina. There are some beautiful boats but many are very far from classic!

The new boat will stay in the water year round (my husband is already shopping for a little diesel heater!). We have some truly beautiful sailing days in February.

For the immediate future, we will be adding to the family. Eventually one will have to go or I may find myself sailing alone a lot more!

Your marina wouldn't happen to be Big Water in Starr S.C. would it? I though I saw a Typhoon named Miranda on B dock there late this summer but I never put two and two together until now. If so, congratulations on a job well done, it looked wonderful!

Yes, we are at Big Water. Ariel (our SS23) is back in her slip on the B dock and Miranda is up in MA. She stayed at Hartwell for a week or so while the trailer got finished up.

I go up after work in the afternoons a lot. Stop by and say hello!
