Fate has stepped in...

Three weeks ago I was looking forward to the last cross-country ski trip of the year - an overnighter to Lake O'hara (near Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada).
Past that, I was chomping at the bit to get back on the boat and restart the myriad of projects that had been curtailed for the winter. Then fate stepped in - a call from friends John and Elaine aboard the good ship 'Goolka'. After an eleven-year circumnavigation, and having just closed the circle in Mexico, Elaines' back problems have deteoriated to the point where she could no longer stand the rigors of sailing, and needs to return to Canada. Was I interested in helping John get the boat back to Victoria BC? Three days later, time-off from work was arranged, my flight booked, and passort application submitted. So here I am in Mazatlan as we wait for a decent weather window to head across the Sea of Cortez to Cabo San Lucas. The conditions will then dictate whether we try to head up the coast, or run out to Hawaii, then cirle around the Pacific High to Victoria.
I cannot think of a better person to sail with, or talk to about what works and what doesn't aboard a boat. 'Goolka' is a well found vessel that John completed from bare hull and deck (Fraser 36) - he know EVERYTHING about it. The first thing I packed were notebooks and pencils.
So, the work on my boat has been delayed, but the information I'll glean over the next couple of months will be well worth it. I look forward to catching-up on this forum when I return - good luck and pleasant sailing to all those who'll be launching this year.
