I've read several times over Tim's "blog" about the refit of Glissando and I remember a passage in which he writes that his sawzall's blade snapped and that he was, of course, out of blades.

This week-end, when packing my tools to go to the boat, I had this passage in mind and I packed several blades for my sawzall.

Sure enough, the blade snapped after a while. I was pretty happy that I had packed additional blades. I fetched the replacement blades and I noticed that I forgot the Allen wrench...

That is always a pain!

My old sawsall also uses an Allen for blade changes, it also has a rubber sleeve over the forward section of the housing, so after I lost the allen wrench for it one day, I picked up two, and tucked one in the sleeve so it's easy to get when needed, the other one got stuffed as deep in as I could get it so it's a pain to dig out, but always there in case the 'regular' one gets misplaced.

Perhaps I am mistaken....is that not why vise-grips were invented?

A vise-grap can not enter in the cavity where the hex bolt is located.

Many of these tools are designed to allow the shaft and set screw to extend beyond the body of the tool......which allows you to grab the screw with some vise grips - "in a pinch".

My sawzall's setscrew flew the coop. I picked up the nearest short-enough 1/4-20 capscrew and a screwdriver and got back to work, promising myself that I'd buy a new setscrew.

Works fine 10 years later.

My Porter Cable Tigersaw requires no hex key as it has a Quik-Change™ blade clamp for keyless blade changes. I love this tool. I seldom need it but when I do ... it's great!
