Hello all. I'm now the proud (and slightly nervous) owner of a '65 Pearson Vanguard and quickly becoming an adict of this forum. Polaris passed her survey beautifully, but I'm sure there are lots of surprises out there lurking. With a project list already as long as my waterline, I look forward to your insight, and hope I'll be able to offer some in return.
Please take kindly to this old boat neophyte! :)

BTW, interestingly, William D. Booth, one of the previous owners, published a book entitled "Upgrading and Refurbishing the Older Fiberglass Sailboat." He used his early '80s restoration of Polaris (named "Jubilation" at the time) as the foundation for the book. Pretty neat to have at least one part of her life documented!

Bravo! - They are great boats! A friend of mine is completely refurbishing his Vangard right next my Triton in yard as we speak. You are going to have a ball.

Hudson won't brag...he is not that kind of guy. But I will.
He is my neighbor (literally 300 ft away) and a great guy.
We brought her from Hampton to her new home. 54 miles in 10 hours last Saturday under Genny most of the time. Yup average 5.4 kts in a boat that hull speed must be near 6. Saw 9.2 on the GPS. (not sure how that happened)
She handled messy 4-5 Chesapeake chop like a good old boat does and she did it all in style.
Boat is in great shape and is a wonderful example of a classic plastic...
Thanks to all for the kind and welcoming comments! And a special thanks to Ric for crewing with me on that long run home!! He's the only guy I know who can trim a sail to squeeze 9+ kts out of a boat like this!! What a memorable trip! Polaris now lives at Yankee Point on the Rappahannock River (lower Chesapeake Bay).
AJ, to your request for more pics, here's a link (and congrats to you on that gorgeous new boat of yours!!):
I haven't taken any nice pics of the salon yet, so the ones here are older ones from the previous owner. Nothing's changed though except for the upholstery. In fact, I think she looks better now. (And I think I'm in love with that nearly new BetaMarine diesel!)
Here's to wishing for shorter work weeks.......
