New to me Triton #202

After nearly a year of trying to decide what boat, then which boat, I have bought a Triton. She is Hull #202 and has been sailing out of Jamesport, NY for the last 4 years. She is in pretty good shape for a 50 year old boat but is going to need a lot of work and updating. First thing that has to go is that hideous wheel. I do not have it home yet but I am having a trailer made for it by Sail Trailers in Columbus, Ga. As soon as that is done I can go get my new baby! I am really looking forward to getting to work on her. I have a lot of questions so be prepared!

The album is public if you wish to view all of the pictures I have.

Hi Jim,
Welcome and many thanks for posting all those pics on photobucket. I have a similar aged Triton and I think we share a number of upcoming projects (for example, my rudder looks much like your's). i look forward to comparing notes. Excuse my bias, but you have a beautiful boat.

Oh, one thing I meant to mention before: Another member here bought a Triton with a wheel and removed it, as you plan to do. The bonus was that he sold it for quite a nice sum on eBay (hopefully to someone with a 35+ footer and not another Triton, in my opinion).

Thank you both for replying and for the kind comments!

Rachel,
Yes, I thought about selling the wheel. I am a recovering pack rat who dreams of a tidy ship so it will either be sold or given away to highest or the friendliest bidder! (there is a joke there)

David,

Thanks I am glad to be here! I plan to begin work on 202 in just a few weeks and will be posting the boat refit porn to a blog for the pleasure of everyone!

202? I see cockpit lockers and a raised fuel fill, I thought those were 300+ features?

I looked at a Triton a few years ago that had cockpit lockers. I'm pretty sure it was #295. I've always wondered when they were introduced.

Figament,
I have top-opening cockpit lockers on EC#188.
My hull number isn't stamped in bronze or carved into the mast-support beam, so your comment caught my attention.
I can't find a source indicating the change over hull number for the cockpit lockers (looked here, MIR, "What's the Difference"). On NETA all I found was a May, 2000, correspondence from Bill Bell where he states: "I have been unable to find out the starting date or hull number for the opening seat lockers in the cockpit."
Is there another discussion thread I'm missing?
David

I could be wrong about the hull number. I base my understanding of the hull number on the number on this sail and the year I have been told that the boat was manufactured, 1961.

The sail might not be the original sail though....

Congrats on the 'new' boat. I think you are spot on with ridding her of that terrible contraption in the cockpit.

Why would someone do such a thing to a hull who loves to sail? I am glad she has found a proper home. :)

Well crap. Just found out this morning that I am being transferred to Saudi Arabia effective in 1 week. I am not going to be able to finalize the purchase of this boat. I am supposed to meet with the owner this weekend to make final payment. They are not going to be happy.

All of my plans just went poof.
