Okay, so I guess I can say that the recore project is done. I haven't yet reinstalled a single deck fitting ('cept for chainplates), but for the purposes of this post, I'm going to postulate that such work is beyond the scope of "recore". Yeah. That's right.

Bad pic of the foredeck, fine-tuning the pulpit location.

Another bad pic. Was trying to capture the canvas texture of the dynel. The quarter is there for scale. Hopefully I'll be able to get a better shot when she's in actual daylight.

Eh, just a general view from the top of the ladder.

Shelf full of bits and pieces waiting to be reinstalled.
The hot weather that made epoxy work difficult is doing the same for paint work. The paint is curing before the brush strokes have a chance to lay down. Again, early morning work is the only remedy available.

No, I'm not messing with a 2-part anything at this point. Interlux Brightsides "off-white" for the cabin sides and "hatteras off-white" for the grippy bits.
The last several days are such a blur that I can't really recall when I took that pic. That might not even be the paint. That might just be the primer. I'm actually not at all happy with the way the cabin sides are coming out. I predict I'll be repainting them within a year or two.

First sight from a distance of greater than 4'. Sorta looks like a boat, I think.
Yeesh, that cabin looks kinda huge and misproportioned when the lifelines and such aren't there to break down the scale.
Almost wet...... almost...
Yes, that's a stupid $0.95 eyebolt where the stem fitting should be. I feel like such trailertrash! Still waiting on replacements for the original bolts which were clearly well past their prime.
Ok so I'm afloat. A fairly uneventful evolution..... There was that one moment of panic when my father, manning the outboard-powered inflatable strapped to the boat's hip, couldn't hear me yelling over the din of the motor as he tried to BACK the combined boats into the slip. Friggin powerboaters!
She's naked as a jaybird, ain't she? Not a single portlight, not a speck of trim on her. The only deck hardware is the genoa tracks, which were never removed. A fairly pathetic sight, I must say.
One mild kick-in-the-teeth.
All through my career as a designer, I've been counseling clients to make color coordination judgements under lighting conditions appropriate to the final product. If you're picking exterior paint colors, take the friggin sample boards outside and look at them, preferably from several distances.
For whatever reason, I did not follow my own advice on this one. The two colors of the deck and cabin sides are not different enough from one another. In direct sunlight, from more than 15' away, they look like they're the same damn color.
I haven't had a good solid Homer Simpson DOH!!! moment like that in a while.

Well it's official. You had the daysailor afloat and moving under her own power before I had Figment moving under her own power. Beat me by about three days.Tim wrote:Technically, I already have! hehe ;<)Figment wrote:At this rate, Tim's going to have the Daysailor floating...
(If only for 20 minutes or so...)
It's amazing how long everything takes. Time keeps on slippin'...slippin'...slippin'...
I dropped the engine yesterday afternoon and slipped docklines for a brief river cruise today. Damn that felt good.
Place yer bets, folks! Who'll have their boat SAILING first???

Unfortunately, the ultimate decision on that is out of my hands. I am now at the complete and utter mercy of my sailmaker, who is supposed to make my headsail this week, now that they can measure the luff length properly.Figment wrote:Place yer bets, folks! Who'll have their boat SAILING first???

I have implored them to hurry, but it will only be done when it's done. I'll be ringing on their phone as soon as they walk in the door for work this morning, though!
Send your speedy vibes to Hallett Sailmakers for me.

First sail of the year: 9/3/05. Boy ain't that just ridiculous?
But it happened. Just an easy day of reaching around under mainsail only. I've been racing all summer, but today was Julia's first boatride of the year and she wanted to take it easy and get her legs back, so no foresails.
Something else happened too. First Random Compliment. I was short-tacking back into the mouth of the harbor when I heard the "Hey, what kind of boat is that? Beautiful!" shouted from an anchored CD28 as we passed. That was pretty cool.
