Up on stands and working on the mast, rigging, and deck compression I couldn't help but think of what she will sail like this spring. Sorry if I am out of line but it's all about the finish line where you throw off the deck lines. Hopefully this picture goes through.

Well, Heather just walked in and read this thread over my shoulder and she said "sometimes the forum does give that impression."

Maybe we should have a moratorium on reconstruction posts, and just post sailing posts for a while?

Well yeah, I guess we do like to work on our boats. But I took kempmd to be refering to racing rather than cruising. Racing or cruising, its all good sailing to me, and as much as I like working on my boat, I really would rather be sailing.

Sorry if I came off too critical of all your efforts. I just seem to move from one water project to the next. This was my latest finished effort of wood and fiberglass and now I am new deep in the Triton and having a good time.

Not that there is something wrong with prefering the work over the sailing, is there?

Out of line?! Not at all. Secretly, many on this forum like sailing almost as much as they like working on their boats. Being reminded "why" we do it is always a good thing.

Are we too focused on fixing boats? I don't know about you but after I finish posting this I am going to read about how to make cheese on this forum.

Cool stern rail assembly, by the way. I'd love to see photos of that one from other angles.

Sailing stories and photos are great, and I hope everyone posts them. There's certainly nothing "out of line" about it.

But after all, this forum is about maintenance and repair, so why shouldn't that be the focus of most of the posts? It's an important part of boat ownership for many of us, and the myriad ways to approach any given problem make good fodder for discussion. The old boats that we love simply cannot survive without maintenance and, typically after 40 years, some serious repairs and upgrades.

For me, I like sailing just as well as working, and working just as well as sailing. I honestly wouldn't want to do just one and not the other; I like the variety. That's why I keep a steady flow of project boats...but they're not keeping me from sailing either, when our short season here makes it available. Everyone here chose to buy or otherwise obtain an old boat in need of maintenance and repair; hence, there must be an underlying interest in the process. Otherwise, we'd all own shiny new Catalina 280s or some such thing, and just trade up every 2 years rather than deal with any maintenance. (Perish the thought.)

We like to talk about anything and everything here. Bring it on! There's probably an appropriate forum here for just about anything, including cheese!
