Ok, it's on to new things! Tim and Mike: Can you talk a bit about the Corecell that's being used for core repair? Any pictures? Impressions?
Thanks!

I bought the Corecell from
Noah's Marine just over a year ago. I ordered 6 sheets of CoreCell A500 (B) 9MM PL 23"x48" for $73.14.
From my point of view, that is a total rookie at boat work, it was really easy to work with. It's closed cell so doesn't absorb epoxy, fairly brittle, sands easily, cuts easily with a mat knife so is easy to trim, and it super light weight. I'll let Tim give the expert's POV. :)
Here it is laid out on my work bench with old deck skins on top, ready to be trimmed.

Interesting. Not too pricey, is it?

Looks a lot like the coring on the Albin Vega, although mine is a bit thicker. It's sort of "crunchy" when you squeeze it.

I must say Tim, simply amazing work! The transformation is remarkable. I cant wait to see the finished product.
I really enjoy watching the process, thanks again for keeping such a detailed journal.
I had to laugh when I looked at the owners own web site. His friend, who helped with the original repairs, had a great quote:
"holy hell! he's done half of our summer's work in 8 hours..."

I was up working on Dasein today and can attest that she's coming together nicely.

already done the non-skid!!
Sea Glass - May 17, 2007
Truly amazing. I am simply in awe - of his efficiency AND workmanship! I can't wait to get out sailing again with the family this Summer!
Thanks Tim!!! We're on the home stretch! (Please pardon the liberal use of the word "we"...)

I was up there today: your "custom mix" looks niiiiiice. The lightened beige is just about perfect imo.

Seaglass is looking very pretty with the tape off and the second coat of nonskid.
Where will you be mooring her, Mike? Will we see you out and about this summer or what?

Absolutely! We'll be at Centerboard in South Portland. It's hard to imagine - a year ago I was just starting my tiny piece of this deck job. And Tim bangs it out in 17 days' time! Amazing.
I'm hoping to make it up to Tim's next week. In addition to the obvious, I'm looking forward to seeing your spiffy new sole.

It's the cast bronze Buck Algonquin 5"x5" (00MB5X5) from
Deep Blue Yacht Supply. One of the few very pleasant and efficient internet suppliers I've run across. I highly recommend them.

Sea Glass project - post mortem:
Saturday (06/23/2007): install minimal sailing hardware
Sunday (06/24/2007): shakedown sail, then first "family" sail of the Summer
Tucked in after her first busy day of the Summer. Still many things to do, but we can sail while doing them...
Thanks from all of us Tim!
Here's to ya!

Glad to see her out sailing! Enjoy.
Did you end up with a padeye for the mainsheet?

Was out on the mouth of the Severn River, by Annapolis, MD. Saw a fine Pearson Triton sail by, dark blue hull. She is a beauty, didn't catch the name but someone did a beautiful job.

Not exactly. I found a u-bolt with a rubber gasket which "waterproofs" it. I installed it with a good sized backing plate. (I only had to drill 2 holes in the deck that way.) But it worked so well, I just may stick with it until I can get a real traveler, rather than cobble together my old crappy one.
You can just see it here...

Sea Glass looks fabulous and it's so neat that you've gotten out to enjoy her already.

I'm envious... She looks great and it looks like you are having a great time. Can't beat that. :)

Thanks everyone. I'm thrilled with the results and I'm very glad I decided to hire Tim to finish the up the job - if not, I'd still be waiting for a decent weather window to land on the weekend just to work on the boat, not even to sail it! (Pssst! Britton. Nudge nudge...!) And even then, I'm sure I couldn't have done anywhere near as nice a job as he did!
Allen wrote:I'm envious...
"Envious" won't begin to describe it when you start posting pics from the tropics next year. Yours in coming! :)

Boy, the forum has been busy! I had to really dig to dredge this thread up.
This Fall has been really really nice!
Oct. 12, 2008 - sailing past Cushing Island in the Portland ship channel with my "new" head sail - thanks again Bill!
Oct. 19, 2008 - anchored off Fort Gorges in Portland Harbor
However, I'm not all all looking forward to winterizing this November...
