TIKVAH splashes again
I'm putting this here since my boat seems to be the project that never ends. I'm learning that the only way to go sailing is to set deadlines and prioritize ruthlessly. That's what led to my launching TIKVAH today for the second time since I've owned her (don't ask!). Some people think the season starts in May, but I love sailing in September and October.
Of course, the launch was not without drama. A cranky fuel pump ("It worked great in the driveway - really!") led to a lovely 2-hour cruise of Boston Harbor behind a BoatUS towboat. It could be worse - I had unlimited towing! Despite being a strong, hot breeze off the land, it was pretty relaxing after the whirlwind of the past few days.
I promise I'll have a few pix very soon - I know how you all are! At this point I just need to get some sleep. For now I just wanted to share the news with my favorite boat people!

Well you beat the coveted Labor Day launching! Sail her and enjoy. There is always the upcoming winter to do more work.

Thanks!Figment wrote:Great news!
Yes you might just hold the record for latest summer-launch.
I've been referring to it as a moral victory. In other words, I don't have to spend all winter telling friends why it didn't go in this year! It also gets the boat out of my driveway, because when I haul out it will live in the yard at my boat club.

If the recent past is any indicator, I don't think I'll make much progress this winter. However, I think I may have reached the point where most of the remaining work can be done on the water. Someday I'll paint the topsides and the mast, but next season I'd like to try to get a little more sailing in!Hirilond? wrote:Well you beat the coveted Labor Day launching! Sail her and enjoy. As Promised!
Here you go - some pix of the launch.

Leaving home

Stepping the mast

Ready to go down the ramp

Launching

Almost there

She's afloat! (Please excuse the masking tape and toe rail repair-in-process!)

Congrats! She looks nice.
Can I just say: it seems kind of odd that MA registration numbers start with MS. Isn't that the postal code for Minnesota? (Yeah, I know registration numbers and postal codes aren't related, but still...)

Why aren't they related, though?dasein668 wrote:Yeah, I know registration numbers and postal codes aren't related, but still...)
Oh right. That would make sense--we can't have that now, can we.
The "MS" for Massachusetts registrations has always bothered me also.

Mark,
And here I was, just starting to think about posting some whiny thing asking you where the promised photos were!
Thanks. Glad to see her in the water again! Now, how about some sailing photos? (We're relentless...)

Whiny? Nah, not you! There's no whining allowed on this forum, is there? ;-)Tim wrote: And here I was, just starting to think about posting some whiny thing asking you where the promised photos were!
That might take a while, but I'll get to it. Brother-in-law's wedding tomorrow, son going to college next week, orientation for new job on the 27th, and I haven't even got the sails on yet. I know, I need to get my priorities in order . . . .Tim wrote: Thanks. Glad to see her in the water again! Now, how about some sailing photos? (We're relentless...)
Maybe I can get some project photos up in the meantime to quell the crowd.

Actually, Minnesota happens to be "MN" for both. But I know what you mean: CA (California) is "CF" on a boat; MI (Michigan) is "MC," and WA (Washington) is "WS," which has always made me wonder.
I guess it's probably a holdover from when states had more than an acronym (i.e. Minn and Mich and Wash), and boats were probably already two letters. Guess the PO didn't want to match them up when they converted.
I must be a total old fogey because I still miss the "long" abbreviations.
