INTERIOR SANDING ALMOST COMPLETE

I have been sanding for days now and almost have the interior completely void of paint. Man, what a job. The salon is 95% done with just a little bit more detail work to go. The V-birth and head/closet were done in July then the heat moved in and I had to wait until it cooled down again before resuming. Brutal work. I think I have removed at least 20 pounds of paint dust from the boat. On Sunday I was able to remove the hause pipe mounted on the bow as well as the waste removal deck fitting - combined these two items weighed about 4.5 pounds. Excellent progress is being made. The boat very lively when first boarding. Planning on switching out the backstay wire to AMSTEEL - that will reduce another 4 pounds. I know this whole weight thing has kind of become a running joke, but seriously, it all adds up. The electrical system will be the Fall project - that should be fun.

Are you sure you want to add all that heavy wire to the boat? :<)
The Wire Wieght

Well, yes the wire does have weight but not all weight is created equally. To be sure I amtrying to keep the fat off of the boat but in the end 466 will look and resemble a fully commissioned TRITON to be sure. The electricals will include all of the original cast bronze light fixtures that were stock with the TRITON. Two forward in the V-birth, one in the head and two in the main salon. The running lights will be wired as well as power supply to the VHF radio, a power supply for the Tiller Pilot and a 110 volt inverter. There will also be a battery charger that will make the grade. The batteries will be of the medium size for lack of better discription and only having one cup of coffee in me at this posting. There will be a master on/off switch, main fuse, and circut breaker box. There will also be a bilge pump and switch. So the basics will be covered. What will not be included are, electric fans, spot lights, excessive lighting, huge battery capacity and the like. I have also removed the 110 AC system, which at one point appears to have caused a fire in the forward v-birth.
On another note in concern to weight and what matters - the interior of 466 will much resemble that of the stock design with a few minor changes. In Zach's thread where he has asked the experts to look at a TRITON that he was considering the purchase of, there are interior pictures included and one of that boats gally sink arrangment - I liked the "idea" behind what I saw and may attempt something - better :)
But seriously - imagine a 'cassett type' locker that will fit with ease through the companionway. I may rebuild the entire gally works in sections so that when in 'cruising mode' it functions and appears "stock-ish" but the whole thing can be removed with GREAT EASE and speed. Kind of like a 'plug and play' set up.
For the ice box, I intend on restoring a lot of what would look like the original ice box cabinate but it will house a removable 'off the shelf' cooler and also leave room for other things - such as batteries. To be continued . . . .

Where will the medium-sized (4D?) batteries be located on a weight-obsessed Triton?
Tritons came with cast bronze light fixtures as original equipment? Now I REALLY need some pics.
My boat's pretty lively as well, and I just added a pumpout fitting. :)
Did you replace yours with a plastic fitting, or are you just going to go the porta-potty route?

Yes, I am almost certain the original electrical light fixtures installed on TRITONS were made by PERKO and they are made from cast bronze. They are heavy too, but alas - I like them. Both 346 and 466 came to me with these same light fixtures and I have seen the same or similar on several other TRITONS. I might be wrong, but I am pretty sure that info is correct. (Tim, a little help here?) The batteries also are pretty danm heavy and I realized only after my previous post that there will only be one battery for now. I know that I am a weight fanatic but I also realize that like it or not our TRITONS (and other boats too) are much more fun with a few extra things, like interior lights. I even just purchased 20 yards of SUNBRELLA in BRASS to recover the interior cushions. All of the Teak trim will be re-installed too. I know, what you are thinking but I will concede to wanting a nice boat as well as light as can be within reason.
Maybe I will change my "thing" to
"The lightest TRITON - within reason"
