Pacific Seacraft 25 Hull ID numbers.......

I have a 1978 PS25 and cannot find the hull ID numbers any place. They are usually on the starboard transom(later vintage anyway) but they are nowhere to be found. I also need the engine ID number, again, where do I look?

I can't help on the hull ID for the boat, but if you have an Atomic 4, you may want to check on the reversing gear cover for the engine serial number.

The Hull ID isn't on the bill of sale or prior registration?

Martin,

I think the PS25 often has a small Yanmar, right? I had to find/see the serial number on a Yanmar 3QM30 and it was on the port side of the engine down fairly low. After lying on the engine trying to twist over far enough to see it (unsuccessfully), I then tried to take a pencil rubbing (slightly more successful, but then slightly wasn't good enough).

I finally got smart and reached in with my digital camera and snapped off a half dozen shots. Bingo!

yes its a YSM8R "R" stands for rattles I think. Great motor but vibrates a lot. Normal I understand. I guess I'll be standing on my head looking for numbers........Thanks...........martin

Unfortunately I need a picture or a "rubbing" for the powers that be to believe its the same boat. I may just get a set of stamps and do them up myself. But sshhhh don't tell anybody, I wouldn't want them to think me less than honest. Damn I hate silly rules..........martin

Even though those numbers are supposed to be permanent, it's very possible that they were sanded away or filled during some repair, or paint job, or some such. There's supposed to be a second, "hidden", HIN somewhere, but this rule is inconsistently followed by builders--and the second location may not have been one of the standards in 1978. Check around your cockpit lockers, bilges, and engine room for signs of this second number.

If you can't find it, you can't find it. These things happen quite frequently.
