Cleaning products

While surfing the web the other day I came across some comments on a C&C owners forum about Boat Scrub, Boat Clean and Sure Step deck polish by Aurora Marine products www.auroramarine.com

Has any member of the forum had experience in using these products?

I am especially curious about the Boat Scrub product as they claim it removes oxidation from fiberglass chemically instead of mechanically like rubbing compound. I am very conservative when in comes to choosing products to use on my boat and am hesitant to use anything which will leave a coating of any sort.

The comments on the C&C forum were generally favourable. However, some of them were by Richard Kittar of Aurora Marine Industries and should therefore be taken with a grain of the proverbial salt.

Since I have Awlgripped surfaces, I use only basic soap products to clean, and have no need for compounds or dedicated cleaners. I admit to using the pricey Awl-Wash for cleaning my smooth surfaces, but use regular Comet to clean my nonskid. The Comet doesn't hurt the Awlgrip either, though I don't specifically sprinkle it on those surfaces.

Back in the day, some time ago now, when I was taking care of normal gelcoat, the only thing I ever really used was the basic gray Starbrite marine polish. I was never in to waxing, which can leave build-up. The basic polish always worked well once or twice a year, with regular fresh water cleanings in between as needed. For stubborn stains, Y-10 or On&Off cleaner work well on yellow gunk or growth.

Oh, and sorry: obviously, I don't know anything about the Aurora products you were asking about! :<)
