My LeComte NorthEast 38 has an external lead keel. I am painting the bottom and have a couple of questions:
1) In a couple of places the bare lead is exposed where I scraped off the old loose bottom paint. Is there a special primer to use on lead before applying the new coat of bottom paint?
2) I a not dropping the lead keel, but I did clean out some of the old fairing puddy along the joint between the led and the fiberglass. What type of compound is appropriate to fair this joint before painting?
Thnaks.

The picture 'from starboard' shows the kind of weepy sealant joint these boats have. Mine looks weepier. This fellow's story is on the LeComte site. Not on the site is his repair story which included dropping the lead and resealing.
