Lazarette Cover Repair

Post by Rick »

I've got a damaged lazarette cover and need some advice whether it can be repaired or I should try to build a new one. Here's a picture:

The 2 splits in the forward lip can be repaired, but the larger issue is that the cover is very bowed and won't lie flat. As you can see in the picture, when closed, it is raised over an inch on each side. Can the glass be cut or bent to restore to its original flat shape or do I need to build a new one? Thanks.

I had exactly the same problem and question for the group. I ended making a pair of fiberglass hatch covers based on Tim and other's suggestions and instructions. It is a pretty straight forwad process and a lot more secure and nicer than the old warped covers. I wish I have taken pictures of the old and new covers.

Ray,

Thanks for the link. It raises lots of questions I need to answer before I start construction. Tim's pretty clear about trashing the existing cover, so I'll be building a new one also.
