Cleaning *stuff* from glue-on non-skid material

Post by Richincident »

My boat is abundantly covered with a very grippy non-skid material. It is AWESOME and I plan to leave it for another few years. BUT I moored in what is apparently the most minnow-rich mooring spot in Hingham Bay last summer. It was fine until August, then all the boats around me (and mine too) became resting spots for some very well fed terns.

GUANO!

The rest of the boat is already cleaned up, but there is some white stuff in the non-skid that is going to be its own project once the cover comes off (not quite any day now...)

Anyone have any thoughts on the best way to get rid of the stuff?

THANKS!

Hey Tim!

THANKS for this answer and for the abundant knowledge on this site--and your other sites. How you ever have any time to work on boats is what I am wondering about! You are amazing. Great resources on every site. AND I am loving the boat porn!

I use Barkeeper's Friend: acilic acid scrubbing powder from Publix, 79 cents a can.

I gotta think that the barkeeps stuff is more economical and perhaps more able to deal with 'stuff' than the boatlife stuff.

PLUS you can take it to a nearby bar and perhaps make friends the bartender. Definitely a plus for some of those moments when the alligators are biting your a**.
