I want to repaint a hull which was Awlgriped in 1993/94. The paint is in very good condition, but has dulled with age and some minor dings and dangs.
After reading all the on line information from U.S. paint, it is still not clear to me if I treat the surface as bear gelcoat priming all with 545 or AWL-QUIK or clean sand spot repair using 545 or AWL-Quick as a filler and paint.
Any suggestions welcome.

For the most consistent final finish, I would recommend priming the entire boat after your spot filling. Otherwise, you run the risk of different underlayment densities creating slight variations in the final paint surface that will be visible in certain lighting conditions. This is more of a concern with dark colors than whites. Awlgrip is so thin and shiny that it has little hiding capability; therefore, the more consistent the underlayment, the better.
