I am wondering whether to have the yard do my repair work or do it myself. I looked at my insurance contract and it does require an estimate from the yard but not sure if that means the yard must DO the work for full coverage. Any one know based on their experiences?
Cheers.

They cannot require you to have the work done at any place in particular. They may well have estimating requirements...each company is so different. But even if you had a yard do the estimate to keep the insurance company happy, I don't know how they could require the work to be done there. They can't require it when it comes to homes or cars or anything else.
If I were to make a claim, though, I would not even approach a yard, ever, since no yard would ever do the work on my boat; I would do the work, and would estimate it myself, including a fair labor charge. Honestly, I don't see how they could possibly make an issue of it, but nonetheless I know they would.
This is when a friendly local agent can come in handy, to go to battle with the stubborn, bureaucratic insurance company and get a fair claim.
I'm already fighting your fight vicariously, Clint...just thinking about the annoyances you will surely deal with as you get your claim underway has got my back all up! Good luck with it all.
Do the work yourself....you'll also come out ahead on the claim this way.
