Another Question on SB12
Thanks for everyones input. I have another question as to solving my temp problem on my SB12. I added the temp gauge as my SB12 only had idiot lights. I used a bronze tee fitting bought from an auto supply. Now both the senders to the idiot light and temp gauge come off the same port. I know that my engine head is hot to touch under load but the new bronze tee (on the engines port side) is only warm. Can I unscrew the gauge sender while the engine is running untill coolant seeps out. I am wondering if the coolant is flowing through the engine or if I may have an air lock in the tee. Thanks - Rob Richardson

I'd get rid of the tee and run only the gauge, the coolant in the tee isn't circulating, so the temp read from that will lag the actual temps of the cooling system.
Best way is to have the probe located in the stream so it reads as closely as possible to actual temp.
you also may have a bubble in there that is insulating the probe.
unless the idiot light is also wired into a control system you don't need it, and could put the light to another use.
most engines do have a couple different places for sending units to mount, radiator gooseneck, manifold, or on the block normally pipe plugged when not in use so if you'd rather keep the light look for the alternates.
ken.
