Gelcoat Question

Post by [email protected] »

Hello All

Question, as you can see my gelocat below is in rough shape here in the middle of the image (its gone), what would be the best practice. An epoxy with filler applied and then sanded? What type of filler?

Thank You

Those look like fine pinholes, so you should choose a fine filler designed for pinhole filling. Home-mixed epoxy fillers are good for bulk filling, but microballoons tend to leave pinholes behind of their own, so Awl Fair or Alexseal 202 fairing compound are good choices for this sort of work and are what I would use.

Tks Tim

The picture must not be relaying the issue in the best light. Sorry my fault. Actually the gelcoat is gone and you are looking at actual fiberglass in the enter of the image. What I have done tonight is fill in a real small area with interlux surfacing putty and the larger area with west expoxy with a microlight filler. A test of sorts before I proceed to other areas with the same issue.

Regards
