On a recent trip I kept encountering a stringy drifting seaweed that wrapped around my prop. I could tell it was there by a change in sound and a vibration in the shaft. Reversing the prop momentarily would somewhat relieve the problem, but not shake it clear completely. This is the first time I've encountered this stuff ... and I hope the last!
BTW, somewhere in that mess is a three-blade prop.
The Vega prop location is very "out there" with not much protection from the keel and none from the rudder.
Has anyone on the forum similar experience with this problem? I'm wondering if a line cutter would help, or is that just moving up one level of complication? It's pretty hard to reach the stuff with a boat hook to pull it off.
Not only do the Spurs work well (I base this on reports from people who've had them installed), but the company is great to deal with (that part based on my own personal experience with them - good service, good value, fast turn-around).
They do cost more than the simpler ones that look like a toothed lock-washer though.
Sorry Guys (and Gals!),
I am from a place where there is no such thing as sea weed like that. I think I can guess how those "spurs" work (I'm smarter than your averge bear!), but can someone show a picture of those things installed? A picture is worth a thousand words.
