Sealol Submarine type propeller shaft seal

Post by Polecat »

Have found that this is on my new Renegade. Brochure was attached to the original engine/boat documentation. The brochure shows a similarity to the newer Dripless shaft seals. Says it was used in navy atomic subs ; also Atlas - thor - titan missles. Most importantly --- don't want my new boat turning into a sub because I don't know how to adjust or service it.
Thanks

I know little to nothing about your shaft seal (#51 is an outboard well model), but still glad to welcome a fellow Renegade owner to the forum.

hint, hint:

Show us some pictures of your boat Jim.

Dave, I am ashamed of you. Soliciting boat porn from a new member on your welcome post. How rude!

And welcome to the forum, Renegade. Dave is right about one thing though: we all love to see boat photos; got any to show?

I took 257 pictures of the boat all angles - closeups - every nook & cranny. There are a few I can show now soon as I can figure out how to do it. The mast comes down this Saturday and she'll go on her own trailer the following weekend ----if there is enough water in the lake to load her, then 80 miles to our place for cleaning/unloading/cleaning/inspection/cleaning/list making - Tequilla induced renaming cerimony/- and start - I'm sure you know what I mean. The standing rigging is 40 yr's old and looks great - the bottom has at least 16 coats of bottom paint - PO said he used ablative for the last 10 years or so. Ive found only one soft/delaminated spot in the deck where the PO put in a car radio antenna of all things about a square ft. Do have some worries around the mast step too but couldn't tell with the vibrator/thumper -but there appears to be a 1/4" droop around the top of the compression post.
We like to sail from Sept to June so plan on trying to get her into the water at Palacios by November if possible. Please pardon the rattling on
This forum is impressive - the amount of direct knowledge - and alot of the time with Pictures!
