anchoring in Hurricane force winds

We in Florida may have to deal with Fay in a day or two. How should I anchor my boat in the bay. I am in about 6-8 ft. of water with a sandy/weedy bottom. The danforth type off the bow has held well there for the summer. Do I want to run my 17lb. Fortress off the bow as well?

other than close up any ports/hatches is there anything elde I should do ?

We have been warned to expect possible hurricane winds 74mph and up along the coast.

I am sure others will chime in. YES! set both anchors and minimize the wind profile of the boat. That includes stripping the sails off the spars, taking the BBQ grill off the pushpit, removing the life sling, dodger etc..... If you can find a back eddie that will keep it out of a long fetch of wind, put her there. Don't worry about it being too shallow, worry about it being too deep. The storm surge will keep the boat off the bottom.

Dennis, Thanks for the info. We never had these concerns in Michigan. Of course sailing in January posed a problem that I don't have down here too.
I don't think Fay is going to cause us much of a problem here but ya never know. Better to be prepared I say.
