Balsa thickness

Post by compassrose88 »

Hi! I'm new to this board. I'm a new owner of a 35' Pearson Alberg 1963. I was wondering how thick the balsa core is. I've got to repair a couple of isolated soft spots.

The Triton's is (correct me if I'm wrong, anybody) 1/2" thick. How are you planning to do the repair?

Congrats on the new boat, by the way. I'm a big fan of the Alberg 35.

Well, that too depends on the boat. For example, my poop deck (hull 668) was cored with 3/4 balsa... While others' poop decks aren't cored at all.

But 3/8 is the generally accepted figure for the bulk of the core material.
