I having been looking for an over the boom sun shade/awning for our PY26 and the only ones I have found are the Blue Perfromance and two from Defender, a light weight 4.5 OZ and a heavier cloth material, maybe 7 oz? Has any one purchased either of these and if so what do you think of them? Any other sources other than custom canvas shop which I assume would be more expensive. Our boat has neither dodger or bimini.
Thanks Ted

This may be unhelpful, but I suggest you look at a custom awning. They need not be complicated, and having something made to fit your specific boat need not be frightfully expensive.
In the end, a quality product that truly works for your situation is worth whatever cost. Prefab canvas products tend to leave a lot to be desired, in my opinion.

I agree. I looked last night in the Defender catalog, and I thought the prefeb awnings looked kind of pricey for what they are, considering that they aren't going to be a perfect fit to your boat.
An awning is a pretty easy project: it was my first real sewing project. You can see what I did here: http://www.dasein668.com/projects/summer06/awning.

I've made one for the Morgan 27. White Sunbrella, fitted with a clumsy but effective folding wood batten system to spread the shade from aft of the backstay forward to the mast and from toerail to toerail.
The sewing is easy enough and you will have some reasonable chance of getting something which actually fits your boat. The premanufactured ones are not likely to be the right size or shape.
Removable side curtains are nice! Clothes-pins and towels are not so classy. I've thought that the mesh sunscreen fabric would be appropriate.
Our NE 38 came with a custom Sunbrella sunshade with a couple defects: it hangs under the boom which costs the 6" of headroom, it zips onto the aft edge of the dodger which makes it pretty narrow up forward and does not shate the cabin top, no side curtains.
Forespar makes dandy telescoping aluminum poles for this purpose; they're a little light for thunderstorms but pretty convenient.
