WC Triton deadlights

Post by keelbolts »

I read here that the WC Tritons have deadlights that are simply plexi overlapping fiberglass. What's the best thing to bed them in?

Butyl caulk. It's sometimes sold at hardware stores as "gutter sealant" and is available in black, grey, or white.

No problem, Jeff. I had a bit more to type and got interrupted yesterday. The gist is that the stuff is pretty messy, so tape down some masking paper on the deck and tape off around the portlight frames. You can clean a lot of it with water while it is still pliable (after a day or so is a good time). After that, you'll need a mild solvent, like mineral spirits.

Try hard to keep it off the ports. When it does get on the ports though (it will), please do not use any solvent to remove the caulk if your ports are plastic - it will instantly and permanently ruin them.

Trust me, this is particularly frustrating when you have just installed brand new ports...

Sounds like the voice of experience.

Thanks for the warning.
