Flexible holding tank? Any opinions?

Post by LastMango »

In restoring my boat I've removed the direct discharge head plumbing and need to put in a holding tank. I'm not sure I can find the room for a solid square holding tank that is the norm. Short of re-arranging my layout for the locker next to the head I would probably have to go with one of the flexible waste holding tanks. My concern is long term use and smell with this thing. Everyone warns that thinner plastics eventually absorb waste and begin to smell after a year. I've never heard any opinions on the flexible tanks though.. Anyone have these or have seen them applied?

If you ever plan to use the tank, do not, repeat do not, use a flexible one. In my opinion, they're good only for satisfying the letter of the law, not for actual use. Few things permeate odor more, or faster, than bladder tanks.

Check out Ronco Plastics, Ocean Link, or other suppliers for a wide variety of tank shapes and sizes that fit almost any available space. Custom sizing is also possible.

I'll second that opinion... Dasein came with a bladder installed and no direct overboard option. If used, they will smell.

I seem to remember Tim writing an interesting paragraph about the day the holding tank came out of Dasein. It was quite memorable.
