Alexseal or Awlgrip?

Post by LazyGuy »

The engine is not fully installed yet, the bottom will be painted today and already I am looking at next years projects. The deck is bad. It is not soft but I swear it was painted with house paint and the non-skid areas are done with beach sand. Plus there are about twelve abandoned hardware pieces that I am dying to remove and fill. Anyway, I have a quote from Alexseal and it did not give me the answer I wanted which was either go with Alexseal or go with Awlgrip. Neither are cheap, but I think the support from Alexseal (Q&A) will be there. I have friends that have done Awlgrip but they have never heard of Alexseal. The hull was done about 10 years ago with Awlgrip (they did an "ok" job).

I plan on doing roll and tip on the decks. I have not decided if the non-skid area will be a different color than the skid areas.

Tim, I believe you have used both but it is not clear if you have applied Alexseal by R&T. Any input from anyone with experience would help.
Cheers

Alexaseal was founded by former chemists from Awlgrip. I don't think there is much difference. Our painters at the yard like the Awlgrip a tad better, but only due to experience using it.
