Ah, the beauty of a nice, full wood rack! Visions of grab rails, toe rails, and dozens of miscellaneous fiddles dance in your head....
Included with the shipment were some very long, wide boards that I ordered to make the cockpit coamings and portions of the cabin trunk. These boards are about 12" wide and over 17 feet long; planing promises to be a challenge.
Yeesh, I'd think that paying would provide challenge enough!

Boy, ain't that the truth! I take a lot of deep breaths when these bills come.

But I can't build the boat without spending money on materials, so I guess I'm stuck! This process sure makes me appreciate why quality boats cost what they do. (And, conversely, why cheap boats cost what they do--and how the quality and workmanship suffers in the interest of lower cost.)

Actually, one of those big boards is mine for my toe rail. Ouch.

I only calculate about $139 per long board...semantics.

It's clear I could build this boat for less. But she wouldn't end up being half the boat, either. And so it goes...
