Post by Osprey »

I need to replace glass in two of the small oval cabin ports, can anyone give me advice on how to take them apart please.

For this response, I'm assuming you have what I'd call the "normal" Triton opening ports. But there were 2 or 3 different styles over the early years, so yours may be different. Still, I'd guess the basic process should be the same.

First, remove the opening portion containing the glass by undoing the small screws at the hinges to allow you to work on the frame in a convenient place.

Remove the gasket around the outer edge of the port; this should reveal a 1/4" wide groove in which you will see 6 small screw heads. Remove these screws, which secure the glass between the two sides of the frame assembly (the glass is sandwiched between two separate pieces, which may not be immediately obvious, but the screws secure these pieces together). Once the screws are out, you should be able to separate the port and remove the glass.

I had to drill out the screws when I replaced the glass in one of my ports several years ago. Hopefully you have better luck.

Thank you for your response Tim, this is Triton # 624.
By the way this boat seems to feel and behave like a lighter boat when compared to #306 and #2 anything to this or maybe we are just having to become acquainted with different boat?

I think it's quite possible the later boats are noticeably lighter than the earlier ones. Certainly my experience has been that the hull thickness is less on later boats than earlier, which ought to correspond with a reduction in weight.

#624 probably has aluminum ports of the same design as mine (except mine are bronze). The disassembly ought to be as I've described.
