"Book value" of boats

Post by JonnyBoats »

When one wants to know what a used car is worth, one can look it up in the NADA book which is published monthly and gices average wholesale and retail prices. There are even websited online that will give you this information.

Is there any similar source for sailboats?

Yes. And no.

The closest thing is www.bucvalu.com, which will give you a range of prices. Boats' values vary too much depending on equipment, condition, and other factors to truly rely on such generalized data, but at least it's a start.

These values are not cast in stone, and are very subject to interpretation. Boats are not like cars, and their valuation cannot be quite so clearly defined.

NADA also provides boat values, but their guides are not generally looked upon with great admiration.
