Anyone ever use these blue, rubber "self-tailing" rings and care to comment on how well they actually work?

I had a pair on a set of winches that I got?they worked ok for cleating off the sheet, but I didn't find that they really tailed very well. And I agree that they are ugly as sin. Also, I don't know how old the ones I had were, but they were starting to fail?cracking etc., and leaving nasty blue stains on the sheets. I cut 'em off after a season.

I had a pair.I took them off. I found they tended to foul the sheets when racing. They worked ok and were kinda good for single handing. I'll give you a good deal on them if you want them. They are definately not just as good as a self tailing winch. Then again they don't cost a thousand dollars either.
