My new boat GREYHAWK

She is a 1980 Peterson 34 offshore racing sloop. She is currently berthed at my father-in-law's dock in Annapolis, MD, where she'll stay through the winter.



Next summer, we will sail her up to New England and then have her trucked to my home in New Hampshire to begin her overhaul and refit.

And, doing 6.5 knots sailing on a close reach in maybe 8 knots of breeze:


My 7.5 year-old son is keeping a close eye on the heel-o-meter, anything over 15 degrees he was quick to call to my attention. Then he discovered that he could stand in the wells in the after-deck where the MOB horseshoe buoys would normally be stored, and he forgot all about heeling...


(you can see the port well just forward of the lifesling pouch hanging from the stern rail).

Those were (are) good boats. It's amazing how the old IOR-style boats now seem almost classic in appearance when compared with the modern, wide-sterned IMS rule-inspired designs. Some of the early 70s IOR boats are downright shapely now.
