Stripes with Awlgrip

For those of you that have used Awlgrip for contrasting colors, is there anything special that you do to smooth out the transition from one color to the other, or are the color coats thin enough that you can just tape off and paint away without worrying about an obvious ridge where the colors meet.

There's no way to avoid a slight edge. But the paint is very thin and it's unnoticeable.

Even Hinckleys, Morrises, and other high-end Awlgripped boats have these ridges at their stripes.

That's good enough for me. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't foregoing some well know technique out of ignorance.

when painting cars you lightly sand, clearcoat, then sand again and clearcoat one more time, blends it all in so the ridges don't show up, never heard of clearing a boat, 'cept maybe bass boats, but that's just so you don't cut yourself up on that glitter stuff in the paint.

I was told that on airplane paint jobs they mask The areas to be striped before the main paint color is applied and then the main paint color is masked before the stripes are painted to eliminate this ridge. Alot of extra work on a boat where it doesn't really show or matter.
